DELAWARE VALLEY OPERA COMPANY
La Contessa Almaviva
Part of DVOC's 2024 summer season, explore a modern spin on this fan favorite, set in 1969 at the crux of the sexual revolution and rising homefront tensions in response to the Vietnam War. DVOC's new production sheds light on the themes of class relationships, sexualization of the working class, and gender expression, as an expansion on the revolutionary themes set forth in playwright Pierre Beaumarchais' original source material. Mozart's familiar tapestry of melodies - sometimes charming, sometimes heart-wrenching - become new, offering a fresh glimpse into the hearts and minds of this classic cast of characters.

OPERA NEWS
“The rest of the cast showed off strengths as well, notably Suzannah Waddington (Frasquita), for her bright, penetrating soprano…”
WASHINGTON POST
“Suzannah Waddington was the second of those sopranos, but she sounded especially at home in the intricacies of the “Messiah.” Its centerpiece “Pastoral Symphony” was followed by a recitative punctuated by trumpeters William Gerlach and Matthew Barker from the balcony, and a spellbindingly highflying air, masterfully shaped by Waddington. A concluding air (“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd”) allowed her to duet with Thelwell, one of the evening’s biggest thrills.”
OPERA GENE
“Soprano Suzannah Waddington and bass-baritone Christian Simmons, both current Cafritz Young Artists, contributed substantially to the evening in ensemble scenes from Beethoven and Rossini; I labelled Ms. Waddington a treasure in my report on the American Opera Iniative’s spring online production of American Apollo.”
BROADWAY WORLD
“The rest of the cast is equally impressive - notably, Suzannah Waddington and Hannah Shea (also members of the Cafritz program) pull off a few gorgeous duets in service of their position as Carmen's closest friends, Frasquita and Mercédès…”
